Artist Practice & Social Engagement: Connect with Nature Workshop
Project type
Art Workshop
Date
June 2018
Location
Stockholm
This workshop, hosted in collaboration with Färgfabriken and Stockholms Stad, focused on fostering connections between individuals and their natural surroundings through creative expression. Participants, including newly arrived teenagers and Swedish youth, engaged in outdoor art-making sessions inspired by their experiences in the Swedish forests. Activities included excursions to Kärsön Island, where they explored themes of freedom, belonging, and sustainability while collecting natural materials for their artwork.
The program encouraged storytelling and cultural exchange, using nature as a universal language. Through hands-on creativity, participants transformed gathered materials into collective and individual artistic expressions, reflecting on the Swedish concept of "allemansrätten" (the right to roam freely in nature). This initiative highlights the power of art to bridge cultural divides, inspire ecological mindfulness, and strengthen social bonds in a shared, immersive environment.
